Paws were never the best for opening doors and Eggman had kindly replaced his windows with a slightly harder to break glass, so I kindly took the message and destroyed the door instead. Much to the surprise of the robot standing behind, who seemed to be trying to open the door: just as I stepped in he pressed a button raising the tattered remains of the metal frame.

I ignored its stares as I ran past, needing only a few sniffs to follow Eggman's pungent odour.

I slowed to a trot as I entered the room he was in, the main room: arguing with a robot over the progress of control over Dark Gaia. It ended with a short mention of the Chaos emeralds before Eggman started cackling wildly.

I sighed: raking the newly fixed power box with razor sharp claws to bring him from his fantasies. It worked: much to my delight. There was a muffled grunt as Eggman fumbled for a switch before a new set of lights from presumably a backup power supply flickered on.

He turned towards me, face red, moustache bristling: But I was prepared. "You failed!" He yelled angrily. Ebony cawed defensively; ruffling her feathers.

"I did more than what you requested of me; turned Dark Gaia's minions to our side, converted the purest of beings to darkness just to fight him, and knocked out an old decrepit man. All just for you, you should be flattered." I told him calmly while fixing him with an icy stare.

He shook his head as if ridding himself of an unwelcome thought. "But Sonic got away!" He argued.

"You asked me simply to get Dark Gaia's forces to attack Sonic, to tell them he was their enemy. I did that and then I turned the Gaia guardian into a Dark Gaia monster. If it wasn't for me doing what you should be doing. Sonic would already be at the next temple. Of course all you're doing is stuffing your face and ordering buckets of bolts do your job" I growled intensifying my stare.

He backed up slowly even though I hadn't moved from the doorway. "Fine" He grumbled.

I turned to the door. "Wait!" I turned my head, tail flicking dangerously.

"What? More lectures? More dirty work? Spit it out fat man, I don't have all night." A robot laughed but was quickly silenced by a cuff on the head.

Eggman gritted his teeth and steamed. I hoped he would develop anorexia and die. I would be okay being responsible for that death. "We'll be moving locations soon so I can better monitor the construction of Eggmanland."

What a bad name for a place. "Good luck, I hope a beam falls on your head, or you crash and slowly burn to death. Bye." I hissed, turning to leave again: that sort of death would be much better then starvation. I hoped I would be in range of his agonized screams.

"'We'll' meaning you will be joining me." He growled, leaning forward until I glared again.

"Uh, no. I'll just leave and find the family you took me away from." I turned once more, vowing silently to not turn back.

Suddenly he started cackling, a chilling sound that froze me: it wasn't his usual maniacal laugh, it was deeper, as if he knew something I didn't, he probably did, I finished year six early this year after all. But that wasn't what I meant.

"You can't go back! You're a monster! A beast! You have nowhere else to go! You can't go home or anywhere without being shunned! I'm the only place you have! The only place who appreciates your unique abilities!" It shot through me like a spear and I shuddered.

He was right and he knew it, I would be shunned like the beast I was, sold to the circus and paraded for cash or hunted and slaughtered, I felt miserable at the fact.

Ebony cawed softly. I could feel her hate for Eggman radiating off her inky black feathers: The truth did not affect her, she could fly away at any given time, she was free.

"I accepted you…" Ebony whispered. I shook my head. She was a bird and I was a human, from two separate worlds that should never have collided.

The beast inside of me stirred as Eggman whispered again: "Come Jessica. This is your home now, the only place you're welcomed."

…Home. This isn't your home: he's taken your home away from you, he's taken everything away from you and he will never let you return.

'Not unless I kill him but… It's wrong, I could escape, I could run….' I thought back desperately.

Have you not yet realised that I'm here to stay? I am part of you, a part you can't lose lest death take you, I am your soul, your judgement, I am you. Let me take over if you do not want to kill him. Let me kill him…

Yes.

I opened my eyes.

Ebony shuddered gently, fluttering up to a crevice above the door: at least she felt the change in aura, Eggman wasn't even paying attention, he was laughing, smug and powerful.

Powerless soon.

It wasn't my aura.

It wasn't my body.

It wasn't me.

I watched from behind the veil of my mind as the beast crept forward, tail flickering like a flame, just about to roar up and consume everything, silent as a shadow, the calm before the storm.

Eggman opened his eyes.

Now he saw it, as all men do. The train right before it hits you, the ground right before you crash, the sun… right before you sink below the murky depths.

He fumbled with the buttons, large hands fumbling for a switch, grinning in victory just as a transparent blue barrier flickered into place, shielding his form from harm. But I was stronger than technology, I was stronger than him.

I was invincible.

It was silent for a long tense moment; I stopped in my deadly stalk, standing as still as stone as sounds flooded past me.

Clank.

My, no, our ears twitched. Another tail started to sprout from behind me, flicking in unison.

The robots in the room backed off, clambering over computers and each other in their haste, pressing up against the walls: Eggman made the mistake of giving his creations emotions: Fear.

Clank.

It was closer now; I could hear the winding of gears and the buzz of electricity. Eggman had summoned some more creations to join the party it seemed. We smiled, our mane rising to a constantly moving flame as another tail curled into existence.

Eggman looked scared, nervous. He couldn't look at us; his eyes wandered the room constantly seeking something to focus on, only to bring his gaze back to our demanding form. We relished his fear, fed off it.

I realised the beast emotions were playing into my own, but I wasn't afraid, not anymore… I felt more powerful than I ever have. He was just a mortal, a fat greedy man who would succumb to death as all others had to, I was riding deaths horse this time, and judgement shalt be delivered.

Another tail, the fourth, I felt no transition between me and beast, even the small amount of pain that started to ebb on my consciousness did not faze me, I didn't even notice it. It was just him and I, Prey and predator.

CLANK!

The robots marched in, a small army. Another tail flickered into existence, the fifth tail. All fear was banished, all doubt, all control. I was a demon birthed from the depths of hell, and I was here to drag them with me into the abyss.

They surrounded me as I concentrated my power: another tail, six. There was a heavy cloak of emotions buzzing in the room, so strong I could feel it on my shoulders, taste the fear on my tongue.

Pain tried to pierce the veil around my mind… a feeble distraction which was swept aside like dust. I flicked one of my tails, tripping several robots as another tail appeared, seven. A flash of fire ripped through my body, it didn't hurt, not anymore, nothing could hurt me, pain was a word, a symptom for something greater and beyond our control.

"You seek to control the uncontrollable Doctor!!!" I roared; shoving away a robot which was hovering above me as flames sprouted around me.

It spun away crazily, crashing into another of the flying robots. I took a step towards Dr Robotnik, fury flaring in my eyes. Spinning as a robot came at me from the side and piercing it with my teeth.

Another tail, eight. Pain, Pain, Pain. Ignored, I was a god and life bowed to me, an angel with wings as black as night and eyes as red as fire. I ruled, and they served; without question, for the only punishment was death.

I took another step; robots were dog piling on me. But the tails destroyed them, with ease; sparks and debris fell around me like rain. I didn't need to focus on anything other than him and I took advantage of that.

Another tail, nine tails now. I could feel it now, it wasn't strong, it drilled me on, forcing me to leave nothing but debris wherever I walked.

Invincible, powerful, nothing could stop me.

Another metre passed beneath me, three more tails appeared, twelve. The pain increased slightly, it felt like a dam, struggling to overflow. But the wall protected me, the wall shielded me.

Suddenly, another pain appeared a familiar pain.

Dawn. It was dawn.

With a single swipe his shield fell, one more… one more and we would be free. Suddenly, Ebony was there. What was she doing? Defending Eggman?!

Get out of the way! But she couldn't hear me. No-one could hear me. I swiped, she fell.

Ebony screeched, gazing at me as she spiralled out of the sky. Everything was in slow motion, and she was asking why. Just like me.

But she saw only the beast. Only the tiniest shadow of her friends was there, hiding, begging forgiveness.

Time began to flow again and blood splattered against a robot. They were about to jump on me, crushing the uncrushable only to be eliminated, like everyone else. The sun burst through the window as the thirteenth tail appeared and everything burst through, the dam broke and flooded around me, washing away all the broken pieces.

The beast howled, I howled. The dark mist swirled around me as the robots jumped. The howl turned into an agonized scream. I was a babe, born screaming and blood soaked in the arms of a sweat drenched woman. I was an old woman, lying in a bed, too weak to lift her arms as she waited for death.

I was a thirteen year old girl, stolen away from life and sold to the devil, all scraped knee's and tears.

The robots crushed my bones, crushed me. I couldn't feel anything, just that endless pain. My hand was drenched in blood. I looked through a gap in the robots, I was surprised I could move my head at all. All I wanted to do was die, but I had to be stronger than that… why should I though?

Ebony, still, limp; Ebony… Eggman cackled. I reached out with the one arm that was unpinned; I couldn't even hear myself scream anymore, I just knew that any second death would come and shelter me, I would be free too.

Ebony… I hooked one limp hand around the bloodied feathers and drew her close, clutching her to my chest, away from the clanking feet of the robots.

Ebony… I won't let you die!

I didn't know what to do, but I tried anyway. I never dreamed of dying this young. But I had always said to my friends. I would die before I let myself witness your deaths. I would save you, no matter the cost.

With those words; I summoned the last of my strength and pushed it into Ebony, uncertain but determined.

The feeble beating of her heart; the quick gasps of her breathing, I focused on that; pushing all my energy into her.

She opened her eyes, I closed my own.

It was dark… and cold, very cold… painful. It hurt all over. I felt as if I was on fire, then it faded into an even deeper darkness. One where I couldn't feel any pain, fear, misery.

I was falling from a tightrope, without a safety net. I was drowning without a lifering.

I was dying, with no goodbyes.
