Ebony had fallen asleep long ago, but I had sat there awake, staring at the stars. I used to have a great imagination, maybe I still did; I imagined dragons soaring amongst the glittering lights and fairies dancing there too.

But I couldn't distract myself from the truth, It wanted power, I wanted power. I wanted it bad. I wanted to do what my heart had always wanted, I wanted to do something new, I was sick of being unnoticed, standing at the sidelines, being the good little school girl who never got the perfect mark or the worse mark: only able to wish to be in the action, a chance had finally come and I was going to give it away? No, I wasn't going to give it up.

I wanted to be the bad girl. Just for once in my life I wanted to be the one who wagged school to graffiti the walls, the one who stole from stores and ran instead of getting caught.

I wanted to have a hand in world domination, no matter how cliché.

And I would, I had someone asking me to be in the action, for once in my entire life I had an adventure screaming for me to join in, while I sat there and cried.

"Well, I accept." I whispered dangerously.

Scanning the tree's I spotted a lone robot, I pounced off the tree branch and bounded through the bush, my dodging seemed like a dance as I ran, every beat a jump to dodge ramming my head through a tree, because I was fairly certain the tree would lose the battle.

When I was close enough I pounced, it started an alarm but I ripped its head off, if it could have a head without a neck, I engraved an elegant acceptance letter into its chest and dragged it into the bushes, I ran back and climbed the tree swiftly and nudged Ebony with my nose.

She woke with a start. "Hop on" I told her, offering my back as a perch; she looked at me, cocking her head. "I'll explain on the way" I promised, she hopped on without a word and I ran back to the robot, erasing my tracks with my tail, I grabbed its remains with my tail and carried it in away swiftly: "I accepted Eggman's offer" I told her.

"So?" she asked.

"I was expecting a bit of an argument" I laughed.

"Why? My name just doesn't represent my looks, it represents my attitude, I'm a very black or dark person as you would say" Ebony replied.

"Good, less fighting for me" I smiled as I sprinted; erasing my tracks with a third tail, the other two were holding the robot.

As I came closer to Eggman's hideout I slowed down, I could hear Eggman's yelling from here. I snuck around until I could see the window of the main room and flicked my tail, sending the robot flying; it smashed into the window with a musical earsplitting crash.

It was silent for a moment before Eggman was talking again, "Excellent!" he shouted.

As soon as it was said I pounced through the window without Ebony's argument being heard "You may have noticed that it says 'I don't plan to be used'" I growled; Ebony's claws were digging deep into my back.

"Why! Of course not! I have no intention of using you!" he exclaimed, surprised by my entry.

I snorted "That's a bit hard to believe after the stunt with the book."

"A robot took it. I swear! But it received appropriate punishment. I didn't know who it belonged to so I kept it handy-"

"I don't care anymore" I snapped.

"Oh really, that's good…" He was silent for a moment.

"Ugh" I moaned angrily.

"Oh yes. Of course. Sonic survived the little skydiving adventure I gave him the other day."

"Little? Ha! You launched him from space!" I interrupted.

He waved a dismissive hand "As I was saying. My robots are attacking him. And so are Dark Gaia's minions. But Dark Gaia's minions are doing it out of self-defence, therefore not at full power. I need a focused attack out of them."

"And you believe I can do it" I finished for him.

He nodded. "They made short work of my robots when communication was attempted."

"Where is the bright blue blunder?" I asked.

"He should soon be arriving in Chun-Nan soon" Eggman explained. Silently I left, spinning with a flick of my tail.

"Wait!" Eggman shouted after me.

"What is it?" I asked, annoyed.

"Are you going to do it?"

"Duh. But it's going to be dawn soon. I can't make it over there in human form."

"Yes you can. I got a ship you can use."

"And Sonics not going to notice that is he?"

"Ugh!" He snapped. "You won't make it unless you can fly!" he huffed.

I stared at him and an awkward silence ensued. "You can't fly… can you?" He laughed.

"Fine!" I looked away angrily. He grinned victoriously.

"But the night is nearly over, and dodging your robots has…" I faked a yawn. "Tired me out."

"Ugh, fine, fine. Go and rest or whatever. Just know that we have a very plush room just for you waiting." He attempted a smile but it was flawed, his bushy moustache covering it.

'Plush room' was madman lingo for 'prison cell' I shook my head and turned to leave when he stopped me again.

"What's the bird for?"

Ebony jumped around on my back and gave him an icy stare. "An ally" I answered.

"I'm your ally." He grinned.

"That's a laugh. No you're not. An ally you can trust. You are an untrustworthy fool who thinks I'll follow his every whim. This is an error of the mind."

I left, startling him by leaping over his head and back out the window, bounding through the forest before he could screw up anything more.

"Follow her" I heard Eggman say; clear as a bell despite the distance.

"Just try" I whispered. Sprinting in the opposite direction of my makeshift home.

I dove into a river; swimming upstream before leaping out and digging my claws into a nearby tree, racing up the vertical surface as if it were flat, jumping from tree to tree, making sure the trail was strong yet not completely obvious until I made it around halfway in, from then on I made sure I left no evidence of my passing.

When the river came in sight again I leapt this time swimming downstream. I jumped from the river to the closest tree shaking my fur dry in the river before going on.

I landed gently in the tree I had to call home. Ebony hopped off. Stumbling over and collapsing in the leaves of her nest. I wasn't even panting.

I closed my eyes as the darkness swirled around me. Opening them as I regained my short ranged human sight.

"What should I do? What have I done? I have enough food to last me a day and I'm not sure whether it's even edible for humans… And I've signed my life away, he'll find me… he will never give up." I started blathering.

Ebony was sleeping off the wild ride in her makeshift nest while my hair blew gently in the rainy wind. Did it ever stop raining here?

"I could train" I thought aloud. "If I trained I won't be just a scared little girl in the day time, I could have a chance!" It was a useless idea but I didn't have much else to do. I could collect food as I went also. A game of sorts I suppose.

I climbed down the tree, and then climbed up again. Sliding down the next time and taking skin off my hands. I climbed up a different tree and tried getting to another tree without falling, and praying the vines would catch me if I did.

Three hours later. I lay exhausted in my hammock, sweating and breathing heavy with a pile of banana flowers in the small food pile.

Ebony was stirring as I fell asleep.

"Jess, wake up, they found us!" I opened my eyes. It was darker Ebony was on my chest, peering right at me with her beak nearly touching my nose.

"Jess, they found us!" She repeated.

I looked down. Robots were marching towards the tree, too many for my human eyes to process.
